ALEX AND TRAHANAS

ALEX AND TRAHANAS a lifestyle project, celebrated through curated fashion and entertaining pieces.

Created by Alexandra Heard and Heleena Trahanas, the online lifestyle store/design studio is the result of the duos fascination with how we undertake life’s everyday and special ceremonies. ALEX AND TRAHANAS thinks about how these moments can be elevated through quality timeless design.

ALEX AND TRAHANAS will release garments and entertaining pieces sporadically as their travels to Europe and beyond take them to source the nest of fabrics, materials and production methods. Their rst collection titled ‘Aperitivo Hour’ of Italian linen dresses and Puglian hand painted ceramics captures the warm hospitality and summer of Southern Italy.

These pieces, like many to come, are designed to be enjoyed over an aperitivo with good friends.

The debut collection includes a collection of re ned Italian linen shift dresses, made in Australia. With a focus on quality, wearability and ease ALEX AND TRAHANAS sourced their premium garza crepe linen fabric from one of oldest and prestigious mills in Italy. Designed to take you from day to night, available in two styles, a clean silhouette short sleeve dress and a sleeveless shift dress, and available in three classic colours white, navy and forest green, they make the perfect spring/summer dress.

Bassike Paddington

The bassike Paddington terrace Store has undergone its first transformation since opening in 2009. The store design reflects the bassike evolution having grown from the original organic cotton jersey collection to including women’s & men’s ready to wear, japan made denim, accessories & fine jewellery, and bassike mini collections.

Bassike’s Deborah Sams & Mary Lou Ryan have partnered with Akin Creative on the store design which elevates the spatial experience through contemporary furnishings & premium design details.

On the ground floor a blending of materials sees hand-selected silver travertine worked across point of sale bench tops, soft grey Italian leather upholstered display plinths, and flax linen fitting rooms carpeted with sisal and finished with artek stools. A central staircase in powder coated steel leads to the lower ground which is anchored by tonal woven rug and Hans Wegner occasional chairs which open out onto a quiet rear courtyard with a teddy-bear magnolia tree & a circular steel planter framed by white concrete plinth stools, cultivating a relaxing environment for shoppers.

“We’ve enjoyed creating the new space in which we have continued to evolve with the brand. Each of our stores have subtle points of difference while always feeling familiar and true to the bassike DNA.” – Deborah Sams, co-founder & director – bassike.

“Redesigning bassike Paddington has allowed us to align the Paddington flagship with the bassike brand as it stands today, but also how we envisage the brand growing over the coming years.” – Mary Lou Ryan, co-founder & director – bassike.

Marz Designs from Catapult Design

Here is something new for fans of original design, the team behind Authentic Design Alliance and Factory Design District have announced  DESIGN-MADE a there day event celebrating Australian design and will span over three days from October 27–29 and focus on original, accessible and sustainable design pieces.

Cor o-founders Kobe Johns and Anne-Maree Sargeant, the market has been some time in the making. They have each been in the sustainable design scene for years, both in various capacities. Johns is the one-woman show behind Factory Design District, a three-day exhibition of new and established Aussie designers which has formed the basis of DESIGN-MADE  Sargeant, a designer herself, has been attending and curating design events since 1987. In her position as director of the Authentic Design Alliance, she’s a strong advocate for originality in design and the ADA is also attempting to outlaw the grossly prevalent counterfeit trade that is hamstringing the Aussie furniture design scene.

The event will be held across two venues — SUNSTUDIOS and the Fisher and Paykel Experience Centre — and is more than just a market. While the phrase ‘a celebration of Australian design’ is a little cheesy, it’s probably more accurate. You can expect educational talks, book signings, workshops, installations and ‘meet the maker’ forums. Of course, there will also be craft beer, organic wine, yum cha and food trucks to fuel your browsing.

Exhibitors include: CULT, Dinosaur Designs, Hava Studio, MUD Australia, Spence & Lyda, Archer Objects, Fresh Prince, Ilanel, Jonathan West, Tom Fereday and Tom Skeehan, along with installations from LOCAL DESIGN and Interpretations V, a design collective created by Andrew Simpson featuring eight leading Australian designers.

Over the three days there are numerous workshops ands I am excited to announce my Instagram master class where I will share all my tips and tricks for what works for me on my favourite social media platform

Bedroom styling for King Living

Recently I created four different bedrooms looks for King Living with bedlinen by In The Sac to showcase the King Living bed collection and to show how these beds can work in any style of home.

We created these four looks in the King Living studio in Sydney with photographer Felix Forest my goal was to create lived in and inspirational bedrooms to inspire.

What I like best about the beds we selected from King Living is they are all classic designs, that really do work in any space (and you can select from vast range of fabrics). One of the fun parts about working with King on this project is I get to actually choose the fabrics the beds are upholstered in.

Plus I enjoyed working with In The Sac sheets, quilts and pillow cases. All items are 100% pure Belgium linen so their luxurious look combined with an ‘on trend’ colour palette perfectly complimented each bed style.

  1. New York Monotone

This look featuring the slimline Neo bed, with its sleek , simple and low to the ground design.  I kept things tonal and I used lots of shades of grey for this bedroom (bedlinen and upholstery choices). Grey is an easy colour and works with everything and in just about any space, perfect as a foundation. When it came to decorating, I chose more masculine undertones and kept the decoration to a minimum.  Sometimes things in the interiors world can have a slight tendency to be a little more feminine ! I kept things minimal, neat and understated in a classic and timeless style.

    1. New York Luxe

In this bedroom, we were inspired by New York, but created a feel that could be in London, Paris or LA too. I wanted it to feel chic, injecting colour with the art work and occasional furniture for a lived in luxe feel. Everyone wants a super luxe bedroom so we used the dramatic wingback Symphony bed headboard (how great is this upholstered bed head!)  I love this bedhead its a real statement piece. And, the charcoal quilt adds instant sophistication. How about this green velvet in the occasional chair and cushions that I love too !

    1. Bowral

For this bedroom we injected some modern, country feels with some pretty pinks, complemented perfectly by In the Sac’s beautiful Musk linen quilt. Featuring the Promenade Storage Bed – I am obsessed with this natural linen fabric we upholstered the bed in. (I think this is my favourite bed).   The design is simple with no fuss and nice and low to the ground. The look is designed to for a feeling of escape, taking us away from the city for a weekend just like the perfect country getaway!

This bedroom was all about relaxed coastal vibes – Just my style!  No need to guess my inspiration….. Bondi is my home ! This room is just like me, never far from the sea, lots of crisp white, with tan leather and chambray blues, this chambray Serenade quilted bed head is like your favourite pair of jeans it will go with anything…..consider it a neutral ! And probably my favourite look of the four !
